lyrics

NOT A LOT

A chap that I know made his livin' on the road.
He had no woman for a wife.
He spent all his time hustlin' for a nickel and a dime.
Hey Buddy, that ain't no way to lead your life.

He'd rant and he'd rave at all the money that he saved.
And honestly attempt to change.
But with all that he had you know he was always sad.
I know most of you might think that strange.

But there comes a time when the things that you've got.
Don't add up much to a lot.
And if you don't have someone with whom your life you can share.
Then just what is it have you got?. . . . .
Well, NOT A LOT!

Now some folks I've seen live their lives in between.
Being together and being alone.
They never guess with their need for things to possess.
True happiness doesn't come from the things that you own.

You see there comes a time when the things that you've got.
Don't add up much to a lot.
And if you don't have someone with whom your life you can share.
Then just what is it have you got?. . . . .
Well, NOT A LOT!

Now a couple I knew lived their whole lives through.
Completely and totally in love.
They spent all their years in joyful blissful tears.
As if a light shone down from above.

They knew that there comes a time when the things that you've got.
Don't add up much to a lot.
And if you don't have someone with whom your life you can share.
Then just what is it have you got?. . . . .
Well, NOT A LOT!
