BEST OF AN OLD FRIEND Here's a little story I hope it won't offend. Here's a little story I hope it won't offend. Here's a little story I hope it won't offend. Just take it as the best of an old friend. You may not believe this but I'm talking to you. You may not believe this but I'm talking to you. You may not believe this but I'm talking to you. But you're the same ol' asshole I always knew. Just who the hell do you think you are? Just who the hell do you think you are? Just who the hell do you think you are? Some rich millionaire or a rock and roll star? I don't really know you and you don't know me. No I don't really know you and you don't know me I don't really want to know you and you don't know me I just know you're a jackass and you'll always be. I hope you listen closely to what I'm tellin' you. I hope you listen closely to what I'm tellin' you. I hope you listen closely to what I'm tellin' you. It's the best thing as a friend you know I can do. I don't intend to get you back on the track. I don't intend to get you back on the track. I don't intend to get you back on the track. I can take anything you might want to stick in my back. I can't tell if this has helped only heaven knows. I can't tell if this has helped only heaven knows. I can't tell if this has helped only heaven knows. I'll just stick my hands in the pockets of my worn out clothes. So there's my little story I hope it didn't offend. There's my little story I hope it didn't offend. There's my little story I hope it didn't offend. Just take it as the best of an old friend. Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

SEE IT ALL WITH YOU I might live forever. Then I might die tonight. Yeah, I might sail on that river. I could lose my sight. Then I might not see the sun rise. I just might not see the sun set. But if I do. You know I will. SEE IT ALL WITH YOU. I've never been to Mars. I've never walked on the Moon. I'll probably never travel to the stars. But if I do you know it won't be too soon. I never hitchhiked across the country. And I'll probably never ever see the world. But if I do. You know I will. SEE IT ALL WITH YOU. (repeat first verse) Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

Lupe Velez 05:06
LUPE VELEZ She came in like a hurricane. The storm never let up. That Mexican Spitfire. And her little Chihuahua pup. I've heard the rumors. What everyone says. I've heard the stories of LUPE VELEZ. In the company of all those men. You know the Coop, he finally tamed her. At the end a pistol shot. But it was Tarzan who renamed her. I've heard the rumors. What everyone says. I've heard the stories of LUPE VELEZ. Boxing gloves for Christmas. Don't go looking for excuses. Call in the cops. But it was Johnny with all the bruises. I've heard the rumors. What everyone says. I've heard the stories of LUPE VELEZ. Divorced from the Ape Man. Love with a man six years younger. He gave her a child. But wouldn't make an honest woman of her. I've heard the rumors. What everyone says. I've heard the stories of LUPE VELEZ. At dinner with some of her friends. You know her suicide talk spoiled it. All alone in her room. A belly full of pills and her head in the toilet. I've heard the rumors. What everyone says. I've heard the stories of LUPE VELEZ. Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

SO NICE TO COME HOME TO YOU Lately I've been thinking how hard life can be. How it weighs on my shoulders like so much misery. Yeah, things get heavy and I don't know what to do. But girl it's so nice to come home to you. The world can get crazy and get me so down. Make me lose this happy smile I've just found. Make my sunny days turn blue. But girl, it's so nice to come home to you. It's so nice to come home to you. With your happy smiling face that's always brand new. When were together it's just us two. That's why it's so nice to come home to you. I tell myself that the day will soon pass. I look at the clock but the time doesn't move fast. Wipe my sweaty brow get out of this stew. Girl, it's so nice to come home to you. It's so nice to come home to you. With your happy smiling face that's always brand new. When were together it's just us two. That's why it's so nice to come home to you. Can't wait to be by your side again. Listening to your voice always makes me grin. Smelling your perfume sends me into a dream. I'm pretty sure you know what I mean. Lately I've been thinking how hard life can be. How it weighs on my shoulders like so much misery. Yeah, things get heavy and I don't know what to do. But girl it's so nice to come home to you. It's so nice to come home to you. With your happy smiling face that's always brand new. When were together it's just us two. That's why it's so nice to come home to you. Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

Saigon Blue 05:38
SAIGON BLUE He was a clean cut Saigon warrior. An in - love young man. The big - wigs down at HQ They don't seem to understand. Married himself a Saigon Suzie. Least that's what they all said. But it wasn't lust, no it was love. That led him to her bed. Confined to a Quonset hut. With a metal roof in a Long Binh jail. No one to hear his sad story. Or even listen to his sad tale. The military wants to send him home. But he just wants to stay. To get his papers processed. To bring his wife and baby child away. (CHORUS) So you may have your problems. And I may have mine too. But here's to the memory. Of one guy's SAIGON BLUE. There were lots of pretty women in Saigon. And lots of lonely men. But love is love no matter where. No love it isn't a sin. But now the war is over. It's time to return to the U.S. shore. He pleads and pleads but the Big Brass says. "Boy, you should have thought of that before." (repeat chorus) In his single story Long Binh jail room. You know he prays to the Lord above. You see it seems he forgot to ask permission. To fall in love. So he makes his escape one night. Just as the troops pull out like they said they will. Now he's just another name in the MIA files. Just another guy gone over the hill. (repeat chorus) Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

SO SWEET, SO SHY She was so sweet, so shy. She said she'd never been with another guy. I never wondered, never asked her why. She was so sweet, so shy. She was so sweet, so shy. Swore I'd never ever make her cry. Now that's the truth, you know I'd never lie. To my so sweet, so shy. (CHORUS) Things can turn bitter. Things can turn bad. You can be smilin' and still be sad. Spend your whole life lookin'. For a love they only talk about. Well, I knew I had found it. Yes, I knew I had found it. She was so sweet, so shy. When we first made love well I heard her sigh. Swore our love would never die. She was so sweet, so shy. (repeat chorus) She was so sweet, so shy. She said, "Love fades away now, by and bye. But at least we can say we gave it our best try." Yes, she was so sweet, so shy. (repeat chorus) She was so sweet, so shy. She said she'd never been with another guy. I never wondered, never asked her why. She was so sweet, so shy. Not A Lot 04:42
NOT A LOT A chap that I know made his livin' on the road. He had no woman for a wife. He spent all his time hustlin' for a nickel and a dime. Hey Buddy, that ain't no way to lead your life. He'd rant and he'd rave at all the money that he saved. And honestly attempt to change. But with all that he had you know he was always sad. I know most of you might think that strange. But there comes a time when the things that you've got. Don't add up much to a lot. And if you don't have someone with whom your life you can share. Then just what is it have you got?. . . . . Well, NOT A LOT! Now some folks I've seen live their lives in between. Being together and being alone. They never guess with their need for things to possess. True happiness doesn't come from the things that you own. You see there comes a time when the things that you've got. Don't add up much to a lot. And if you don't have someone with whom your life you can share. Then just what is it have you got?. . . . . Well, NOT A LOT! Now a couple I knew lived their whole lives through. Completely and totally in love. They spent all their years in joyful blissful tears. As if a light shone down from above. They knew that there comes a time when the things that you've got. Don't add up much to a lot. And if you don't have someone with whom your life you can share. Then just what is it have you got?. . . . . Well, NOT A LOT! Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY IS DEAD Have you heard the rumor? Southside Johnny's dead. Have you heard the rumor? Southside Johnny's dead. He was found lying on his stomach. A bullet in his head. They called for the doctor. The doctor came on the run. Called for the doctor. Doctor came on the run. He knelt over Johnny. He said, "Lord, lord this poor boy's life is done." Told Crazy Lil. She'd lost her lovin' one. Told his Crazy Mama. She'd lost her lovin' one. Cops didn't know who did it. And all they had was a gun. I was standin' in the doorway. When I heard a pistol "POP." I was standin' in the doorway. When I heard a pistol "POP." Heard somebody moan. Then I heard a body drop. They say Southside Johnny. Was a real mean stud. They say Southside Johnny. Was a real mean stud. Well "HAH", look at him now. Found lyin' in his own pool of blood. So, have you heard the rumor? Southside Johnny's dead. Have you heard the rumor? Southside Johnny's dead. He was found lying on his stomach. A bullet in his head. Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

PAIGE LIVES AT THE TOP OF THE HILL Paige lives at the top of the hill. Her Pappy lives there and he's livin' there still. Everyone gets there by the path by the mill. Paige lives at the top of the hill. When Summertime came and the poppies were in bloom. Sometimes we'd play up in her room. Her doll was her baby my horse was a broom. Things were so simple when the poppies were in bloom. Paige lives at the top of the hill. Her Pappy lives there and he's livin' there still. Everyone gets there by the path by the mill. Paige lives at the top of the hill. I used to play with Paige by my side. Running through green rushes lookin' for a place to hide. The paths were all empty the rivers were all wide. With me playin' and Paige by my side. Paige lives at the top of the hill. Her Pappy lives there and he's livin' there still. Everyone gets there by the path by the mill. Paige lives at the top of the hill. The mockingbird sits in the top of his tree. Concealing what he knows in deep mystery. How can life float by so easily. With the mockingbird sitting there in his tree? Paige lives at the top of the hill. Her Pappy lives there and he's livin' there still. Everyone gets there by the path by the mill. Paige lives at the top of the hill. Pastures of Plenty they aren't just for the few. Paige and me changed as we both grew. But there were those things that neither of us knew. But the Pastures of Plenty taught us what to do. (repeat chorus) Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

CLASS OF '71 BLUES We were sixteen when we first fell in love. With the girls with the short skirts. That fit them like a glove. We'd go to high school dances and they'd play our tunes. And we'd dance with the girls. From across the room. But it's not like that now. It's not as simple as that. We've all grown much older. A little grayer and fat. We've traded in our good times. For an eight hour day. You spend all your time workin' You have no time to play. I married the princess of the high school prom. Didn't know I also married. Her Dad and Mom. Not long after that I started in to work. Sometimes wish I was back in high school. And not a workin' jerk. But it's not like that now. It's not as simple as that. We've all grown much older. A little grayer and fat. We've traded in our good times. For an eight hour day. You spend all your time workin' You have no time to play. Well my High School Princess she up and left. And after the divorce. She accused me of theft. Says I stole her youth and her young high hopes. Kind of wish I was back in high school. Relearning all the ropes. But it's not like that now. It's not as simple as that. We've all grown much older. A little grayer and fat. We've traded in our good times. For an eight hour day. You spend all your time workin' You have no time to play. OH, WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN Georgie was in prison when he got the word. His wife she had left him, threw him another curve. So he took off his shirt and tied it to the light. Stuck his neck through it and then said "Goodnight." And OH, WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN. Thought she was my only friend. Thought she'd stick to me like glue to the end. OH, WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN. Suzie was lyin' on her bed in the bedroom. A letter near by its words full of gloom. An empty pill bottle lies on the floor. Yes, jilted, forsaken, she couldn't take it no more. She cried OH, WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN. Thought he was my only friend. Thought he'd stick to me like glue to the end. OH, WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN. Now in everyone's life there comes a time when they must. Forsake the loved one they thought they could trust. But listen here folks, don't do yourselves in. Just grab you a beer . . . and join in . . . Singin' . . . OH, WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN. Thought she was my only friend. Thought she'd stick to me like glue to the end. OH, WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN. Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

UP AND READY TO GO Hey wait a minute Sister. Who you tryin' to fool? You know you're headin' nowhere at all girl. Why don't you just stay here at home? You're thinkin' 'bout standin' out on that pavement. With your thumb stickin' out. Tryin' to flag down a car to anywhere. Anywhere that's not here. But if you want to travel. Don't move fast, don't move slow. I'll be UP AND READY TO GO. Go up to that bum there. Borrow a dollar from him. The bus leaves in fifteen minutes, baby. You better hurry or you won't catch it. What's that you're trying to sell girl? You say you got to find yourself. Well I know where you should be found, honey. That's right here next to me But if you want to travel. Don't move fast, don't move slow. I'll be UP AND READY TO GO. You say it's a big wide country. And there's lots of it you want to see. Well, you don't have to see it all alone, baby. Why don't you see it with me? And that Circus Ringmaster he's smiling. As they pack up their tents to leave. Why don't we get in line behind them? And join their caravan. 'Cause if you want to travel. Don't move fast, don't move slow. I'll be UP AND READY TO GO. Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders

AUTUMN, SPRING AND SUMMERTIME TOO She lives in a big white mansion. High up on a big white hill. She drives a big white Cadillac. And owns a whiskey still. Her Daddy's a rich millionaire. Her Momma's a socialite. Her brother lives in Paris, France. She's been rich all her life. Oh and I love her. Oh and it's so fine. And she loves me too. AUTUMN, SPRING AND SUMMERTIME. She takes me with her to pick peaches. Or go swimming in the lake. She never gets tired or sleepy. She's always wide awake. She doesn't got no worries. No problems to make her fret. She has nothing to apologize for. No reason to feel regret. And oh and I love her. Oh and it's so fine. And she loves me too. AUTUMN, SPRING AND SUMMERTIME. She calls me her big strong daddy. Loves when I squeeze her tight. Wiggles when I kiss her. Rocks me gently in the night. I know she's been all around the world. And she's probably seen it all. Whenever she gets back in town. You know she always gives me a call. Oh and I love her. Oh and it's so fine. And she loves me too. AUTUMN, SPRING AND SUMMERTIME. Copyright © 2004 Robert A. Wilders
